# Maamoul Roll with Chocolate or Jam

A soft, crumbly dough I fill with Nutella or jam, roll into logs and slice into cookies dusted with powdered sugar.

## What you need

### Dough

- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 packets vanilla sugar (10 g each)
- 1 packet baking powder (10 g, about 2 tsp)
- 5¼ oz margarine, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup orange juice or lukewarm water
- ¼ cup vegetable oil

### Filling

- Nutella or jam
- powdered sugar (for dusting)

## How I make it

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
2. Knead all the dough ingredients by hand into a smooth dough.
3. Divide in 2 and roll each piece on floured parchment paper into a rectangle about ¼ inch (½ cm) thick. Trim the sides straight with a knife.
4. Spread the dough with the filling and roll up into a log.
5. Score the log into slices, without cutting all the way through, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
6. Make another log from the rest of the dough (and a small one from the scraps) the same way.
7. Bake for about 30 minutes, until golden.
8. Slice once the logs are completely cool, dust with powdered sugar and serve.

## What I've learned

- With a jam filling, the cookies are parve.
- The only drawback: I can never eat just one piece.
